I want to begin by thanking residents for their engagement over the summer and for sharing ideas and suggestions on how our municipality can deliver services today while planning for a sustainable future. On September 2nd, council met to review these ideas, along with additional input from the municipal office and council members. From this exercise, we identified several initiatives that the municipal office will pursue over the coming months to either generate additional revenues or reduce expenditures.

As I stated at the beginning of my term, I am committed to improving communication with residents so you can better understand what’s happening in the municipality and how it may affect you. Since then, the municipality has made a consistent effort to keep residents informed. This includes considerable ongoing improvements to the Municipality’s website where there is up to date information on all matters of interest to residents.
Read MoreOver the past two and a half years, I have truly appreciated the opportunity to work with my fellow council members and dedicated staff to serve our residents and build a stronger, more vibrant community. Together, we have undertaken meaningful work to make our municipality one of the best places to live and work in all of Prince Edward Island.
During my time as Mayor, we have:
Read MoreIt’s the middle of April and I’m sure everyone in the community is looking out their windows for the first signs of spring. Leslie-Ann and I saw our first crocus blooms in our backyard; a sure sign that we are on our way to the warmer weather and the summers that we are all looking forward to. While it may be cool, it is sure nice to get out for a walk on a sunny day.
At our most recent council meeting, council members had a full agenda with several matters to consider. I want to thank the residents who attended for their interest in the work of their municipal government and hope that more of you can attend in the future to see your council members at work.
Read MoreSince our last newsletter a LOT has happened in our lives. We have a new Premier; a new Prime Minister and federal cabinet and we are currently in the midst of a federal election. These changes have resulted in a lot of uncertainty for our municipal government’s operations and we look forward to seeing how these changes will affect us over the coming months and years. We are certainly living in interesting times.
At our most recent Council meeting, we heard from the owners of a child care facility in Tryon who are looking to relocate their operation to Victoria. They are serving over 50 children. Parents and our local MLA Matt MacFarlane made a plea to the Victoria council members to consider how the Municipality could accommodate their needs.
Read MoreI hope this message finds everyone well and warm. Over the last two years, the Municipality Office and I have strived to provide ongoing updates to residents about important matters regarding the operations of the Rural Municipality of Victoria. While we have received some feedback on the information provided in the newsletters, I welcome comments and suggestions on how we can improve our communications. Additionally, I encourage residents to provide comments and questions in writing for the council to consider at its meetings if you are unable to attend and make those remarks in person.

For this month’s newsletter, I will take this opportunity to reiterate the opening remarks I made at our January regular council meeting.
Read MoreAs we approach this joyous time of year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude and warmest wishes to each of you. The holiday season is a time for reflection, togetherness, and celebration, and I am proud to serve as your mayor.
This year, we’ve come together to face challenges and celebrate successes, and I am continually inspired by the spirit of unity and kindness that defines our village.
This December also marks the midpoint for this council’s four-year term. I would like to take this opportunity to list some of the significant successes we have had as a municipality:
Read MoreI’d like to start by congratulating Brenda Boudreau and all the volunteers who arranged the Remembrance Day service at the Victoria Playhouse. As in previous years, it was very well attended and appreciated by all those who attended. Given the inclement weather, I think participants appreciated the service being held indoors and out of the rain.
I also want to acknowledge the events at Island Chocolates this month. I’m sure many folks in the community and beyond appreciate the opportunity to warm up and meet with friends over good hot chocolate and local entertainment. I would like to congratulate those involved in putting on these events.

At the November 7th Special Council meeting, council members considered a request to change the date of the scheduled council meeting on November 12th. Council members decided to change the date of this meeting to November 18th at the regular time of 6:30 pm.
AMAR SEAFOOD PROJECT
In April 2024, the Municipal Office received an application from Amar Seafood to rezone the property they own across the road (PID #207290) from their current facility and to build another facility on that property. The Planning Board and Council have been working with CAO Yves Dallaire to process the application. At a Special Council meeting held on November 7th, 2024 Council members asked CAO Dallaire to provide the public with an update on where the Municipality is with the Amar application process and provide a synopsis of the next steps that will be taken. Council members felt that it would be beneficial for the public to understand what is happening at this time and what may be happening in the near future.
Read MoreI hope everyone has had the opportunity lately to enjoy the extended warm weather we have been getting lately. It looks very much like it is coming to an end later this week. On a personal note, Leslie-Ann and I have been in Ottawa for the last week or so for medical tests etc. As we all know, there are limited health services provided by our provincial government and it is sometimes necessary to go out of province to get the care we need. For anyone looking for us, we plan to be back in PEI before the end of the month.
